In this guide

Begin with these Optimizer-specific notes, then use the shared browser setup checklist below.

Start here: Optimizer

  • No microphone or MIDI permission is needed for Optimizer’s file-import and playback workflow. Import a mix or choose Try Demo Song, then click Play Track. Choose your listening output in the computer’s sound settings; the reviewed version has no in-app output-device selector.
  • Before reloading or changing browser data, use Files → Save Project, wait for Saved in this browser, then choose Files → Download Backup. Keep the .optimizer file. A WAV/MP3 master is not an editable project backup.
  • Browser projects are local to this browser/profile and website address, not cloud sync. Keep the same official address for continuing work. Do not rely on private/incognito storage.
  • If playback becomes silent or stuck, check app/monitor level, tab mute and system output, then try Settings → Recover Audio. It rebuilds the audio engine without reloading the project and leaves playback paused; press Play when ready.

The most useful Optimizer keys

Shortcuts depend on focus. Text entry, native choices and context-specific controls retain their own behavior. Finish typing and close menus/dialogs normally before returning to the workspace.

Key Optimizer action
Space Play/pause outside typing fields and native choices.
H Open Home.
A Open Album. A does not select A Original. Use the labeled A Original/A Bypassed button for original audio.
S Open Global Album Settings.
B Select B Optimized where workspace focus permits. Use the labeled button if a control has focus.
Ctrl/Cmd+Z Undo an Optimizer change outside text editing.
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z; Ctrl+Y on Windows/Linux Redo outside text editing.
R / T Zoom the Album timeline out / in at the playhead. Not browser page zoom.
Enter In the appropriate Album workspace/waveform context, return to the selected song’s trimmed start. Focused controls can have a different Enter action.

Use the full Optimizer user guide for waveform edits, automation, loops and control-specific shortcuts. There is no verified shortcut-remapping setting in this version. Browser Save Page, refresh and close-tab keys are not substitutes for Optimizer’s Files menu.

Keep browser zoom at a readable level. Use Album’s own zoom controls for audio detail rather than shrinking the entire page. Fullscreen is optional and does not give Optimizer control of every browser/system shortcut.

Set up your browser workspace

Spend a few minutes checking focus, sound and permissions before a session. There is no single browser setting that gives a website every keyboard shortcut. Some keys belong to your browser, operating system or assistive technology—even in fullscreen. Keyboard capture limits

This shared guide applies across Sonic Space web tools. Use only the feature notes that match the tool you are using: playing a file does not mean you need to allow a microphone or MIDI device. Desktop menu names can vary by browser version; mobile browsers and external keyboards may behave differently.

Your five-minute setup

  1. Protect your work first. Use the tool’s own Save or Export controls and, where available, download an editable project backup. A browser’s Save Page command is not a project backup. Before updating, restarting, reloading, clearing cache or deleting site data, confirm that your work is safe. Browser-local storage is not a guaranteed backup; private/incognito sessions usually discard stored data when they end. Browser storage
  2. Open the right place. Use the tool’s official HTTPS address in a normal browser tab and a browser/version supported by that tool. If a feature is unavailable in an embedded preview, try the official page directly. Microphone and Web MIDI access require a secure context; an embedded page can also be restricted by its host. Microphone access, Web MIDI access
  3. Start sound deliberately—if the tool has audio. Connect your headphones or interface, begin at a comfortable low listening level, then click or tap the tool’s Play, Start Audio or equivalent control. Browsers may wait for an interaction before starting audio. Check tab/site mute and your computer’s output if it is silent. Do not enable autoplay for every website. Audio and user interaction
  4. Put keyboard focus in the tool. Finish typing or changing a value, close any menu or dialog normally, then click the relevant workspace or use Tab to reach its control. The address bar, search boxes, text fields and focused controls can receive different key actions. Try one non-destructive shortcut and compare it with its onscreen button. Keyboard focus
  5. Use this tool’s actual shortcut list. Do not assume the same letter performs the same action in every Sonic Space tool, or that shortcuts can be remapped. If a shortcut conflicts, use its onscreen control. Fullscreen can provide more room, but does not guarantee that browser or system shortcuts are released. Browser/fullscreen limitations
  6. Keep the setup accessible. Choose a readable browser zoom level and keep keyboard navigation or assistive technology you rely on. Timeline/waveform zoom, when provided, is different from page zoom. You do not need to disable accessibility features or browser security to use these tools. Read shortcut labels correctly

  • Ctrl/Cmd means Ctrl on Windows/Linux and Command (⌘) on Mac only where the tool documents both. Mac Control is a different key. Option is the Mac label for Alt.
  • + means hold the keys together; / means alternatives, not simultaneous keys. A plain letter shortcut does not imply Ctrl/Cmd or Shift.
  • Keyboard layouts, language/input methods, Fn settings and system shortcuts can change the result. Use the tool’s displayed label and your browser’s menu; do not change your typing layout simply to match a diagram. Safari layout caveat
  • Be careful with Ctrl/Cmd+R (reload), Ctrl/Cmd+W (close tab), Ctrl/Cmd+L (address bar) and Ctrl/Cmd+S (usually Save Page). Do not treat them as app commands unless the tool explicitly documents that behavior. Space can scroll a page or activate a focused control instead of playing audio. Chrome shortcuts, Edge shortcuts
  • Browser, desktop and text-editing shortcuts can take precedence. If an accessibility tool, extension or keyboard utility owns a key, use an alternative control rather than disabling protections or accessibility support. Firefox shortcut precedence

Choose permissions per tool—not for every site

Leave unrelated permissions unchanged. Allow a device only when you choose a feature that needs it and recognize the site in the prompt. An unsupported feature cannot be enabled just by changing a permission.

Browser Where to review this website’s settings
Chrome Open the site-information controls beside the address, then Site settings. Review that site rather than changing defaults for all websites. Official instructions
Edge In Settings, find Site Permissions → All sites and choose the tool’s address. Menu grouping can vary. Windows microphone privacy settings are separate. Official instructions
Firefox Use the site’s permissions controls, or search Settings for Microphone. For blocked playback, review the site’s Autoplay entry rather than its global default. Microphone, Autoplay
Safari on Mac Safari → Settings → Websites; choose the relevant category, then this website. Camera, Microphone and Auto-Play are separate choices. Official instructions

If this tool records or listens to a microphone

Choose its recording/listening control, then grant microphone access only if you want that feature. Check the selected input and the operating system’s permission for the browser. Permission does not select the correct hardware or prove a signal is reaching the app. A managed work/school device may require its administrator. Microphone requirements, Chrome device/privacy checks

If live monitoring is available, use headphones and begin with monitoring/output low to reduce feedback risk. Turn monitoring off if you hear a growing howl or echo. Voice-entry permission, where offered, is not the same feature as recording an audio track. Monitoring and feedback

If this tool supports a MIDI controller

Connect the controller, choose the tool’s MIDI connection/input control, and review its permission prompt. Web MIDI is not available in every browser; support also depends on the device and operating system. It is separate from microphone access. Do not enable SysEx/device reprogramming unless the documented feature needs it. An app policy restriction cannot be overridden by granting a user permission. Web MIDI requirements and options

If this tool offers an audio-output selector

Use it only when both the tool and browser support it. Otherwise choose the output in your operating system’s sound controls. Browser output selection can require a direct interaction and permission; it is not a universal menu in every audio app. Output selection, Web Audio output support

For live playing, monitoring or timing-sensitive practice

Try wired headphones or a wired audio interface if Bluetooth delay makes timing difficult. Latency depends on hardware, drivers, browser and processing; a browser setting cannot promise zero delay. Bluetooth microphone use can also change listening quality on some setups. Bluetooth latency, Web Audio latency limits, Bluetooth microphone quality

If something still gets in the way

Symptom Try this first
A shortcut types text, scrolls or operates the browser Check focus, modifiers and the tool’s shortcut list. Finish the edit, then focus the intended workspace/control. Use its onscreen button when a browser/system key wins.
A letter shortcut works in one tool but not another Check that tool’s current Help. There is no shared app-wide letter map. Do not assume a computer keyboard is a musical keyboard.
No sound after opening the page or waking the device Click the tool’s Play/Start control; check tab mute, app level and system output. Use a documented audio-recovery control if available. Save/export before trying a reload.
Microphone or MIDI will not connect Confirm the tool supports the feature, the official HTTPS address, selected hardware, site permission and any OS permission. An unanswered prompt is still waiting. Do not reset all permissions.
Audio glitches, visuals stop or work stalls in the background Return to the active tab, reduce unrelated heavy tasks and test again. If the browser actually discards/sleeps the tool’s tab, consider an exception for this site only. See the browser notes below.
A project seems missing after changing browsers or URLs Return to the original browser/profile and site address. Look for the tool’s local-project list or reopen its exported backup. Do not clear site data while investigating.
A downloaded file seems missing Check the browser’s Downloads list and the tool’s export status. Allow only the specific download you intended if the browser asks. A finished audio file may not preserve an editable project.

Background-tab settings are conditional troubleshooting—not a required optimization. Chrome’s Performance settings include a site exception for Memory Saver; active audio/capture can already prevent deactivation, and Energy Saver excludes audio-playing/video-conferencing tabs from its background-tab stopping behavior. Edge similarly exempts several active media activities and offers Always keep these sites active. Use a narrowly scoped exception only for an observed problem; do not turn off all power/privacy protections. Keep a timing-critical session visible and avoid putting the device to sleep mid-session. Chrome Performance, Edge performance and sleeping tabs

Some tools deliberately stop a feature when their tab is hidden. Check that tool’s own instructions before treating this as a browser problem; changing a browser performance setting does not change the app’s intended behavior.

Before any reset: save/export and check your backup. Clearing cached files and deleting cookies/site storage are different actions, but cleanup dialogs may combine them. Deleting site data can remove locally saved projects. Do not use private/incognito browsing as a way to preserve a music session. Storage lifetime

If you report a problem, include the tool name, its page address, browser/version, operating system, exact key combination, focused control and whether the onscreen action works. Do not include private project audio unless you want to share it.

Browser documentation checked October 28, 2026. Product capabilities and shortcut lists should be checked against the tool’s current help.
